About Ivory Lodge
This family run lodge is full of character, with rooms built on stilts in a Robinson Crusoe style, offering open-aired views of the floodlit waterhole. Its location in the Hwange National Park is best known for being home to great herds of elephants who stroll past your stilted hut, and take refuge from the almighty heat at Ivory Lodgeâs waterhole.
The staff at Ivory Lodge will go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and the guides have an expert knowledge of the area. The huts are kept immaculate and the food is fantastic. With one family room, and two suites that can be converted into triples for families, this lodge is extremely accommodating of children.
Ivory Lodge is set on a private concession at the edge of the renowned Hwange National Park.
How to get there
Ivory Lodge is easily accessible by road or from the airport, and a transfer can be arranged through the camp.
When to go
June through to October is the dry season in Zimbabwe and is regarded as the best time to go as the animals congregate at the few and far between water sources. At the beginning of the season, vegetation can be relatively dense making the animals harder to spot, and the temperature at night tends to drop. However, towards the end of the season vegetation is sparser meaning wildlife spotting is at itâs absolute best. Although, nights can be hot and humid.
November through to May is the green season, where rain is common especially between December and February. With vegetation at its most dense, wildlife can be harder to spot but the bush looks beautiful with plenty of wildflowers and baby animals. There are fewer visitors at this time of year, and prices are considerably reduced.
It is necessary to have a visa to visit Zimbabwe. It is possible to get one upon arrival or from the Zimbabwean Embassy in London. If you choose to get one on arrival, make sure you take enough cash with you in small notes to pay for your visa at the airport. You can also apply for a visa online before travel.
Visit your health professional at least 4 to 6 weeks before your trip to check whether you need any vaccinations or other preventive measures.
