we were right on the river, there is nothing like looking out over the camp while elephants quietly walked all around.

About Chikwenya Camp
Chikwenya Camp is situated on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools National Park. The Camp looks over the floodplain and borders the Zambizi River making this a photographer's paradise with an idyllic backdrop of Rift Valley mountainous escarpment.
Surrounding the camp is a dense forest of Albida and Natal mahogany trees which provide a deep shade during the peak of the African heat, the Albida trees shed their protein-rich pods during the dry season which attract a variety of species providing them with sustenance.
The seven tents that make up the Chikwenya Camp are situated on low wooden decks with wooden walkways linking them to the camps main areas. Each section of the decking is positioned to optimize the camps prime location and give guests the ideal position to enjoy the passing wildlife.

How to get there
The remote Mana Pools National Park is located in the northern tip of the country, 388km/241mi from Harare and far from any human settlement. The park is mostly off limits to vehicles from November to April. Travel by 4WD is essential.
Most people fly into Mana Pools airstrip from Kariba, although charters can be booked from other destinations in Zimbabwe.
You will most likely enter the country via Victoria Falls Airport (VFA), a short distance from the town of Victoria Falls. Alternatively, you can fly to Harare International Airport (HRE) and drive from there. Your tour package likely provides for further transportation throughout Zimbabwe as arranged by your tour operator.
When to go
We recommend May to September for both canoeing and walking, before the heat really sets in around October. However, if you are able to tolerate temperatures over 38 degrees, you will be richly rewarded with the very best game viewing.
Chikwenya is open seasonally between April and mid/late November
Travelling with children
Children are welcome, family tents available as well as a children's menu can be provided.
