About

About Busanga Bush Camp

Busanga Bush Camp lies in the heart of the Busanga Plains, a vast mosaic of expansive grassy seasonal floodplains that extend to the horizon. The Plains cover an area of approximately 750 sq km and Busanga Bush Camp is located in the north-western section of this wildlife paradise.

This is a birder’s paradise at the beginning of the season when there is still plenty of standing water: large flocks of crowned cranes, pairs of wattled cranes, African fish-eagles, thousands of open-billed storks, pelicans, marsh owls, and rosy-throated and Fullerborne’s longclaws, to name but a few.

The accommodation is spacious and with all the amenities. Each tent overlooks the plain. The camp has four well-appointed en-suite tents each with a veranda to take in the sweeping views.

Location

How to get there

Approx flight times

Busanga Bush Camp is around 90 minutes by air from Livingstone in the Kafue NP

When to go

Busanga Bush Camp is operational from 01 June to 31 October each year.

Temperature-wise the Kafue is wonderfully mild due to it’s altitude, averaging 1100m above sea level; it is generally cooler compared to the Luangwa or Zambezi valley’s in October and November and in fact the Kafue goes sub-zero in winter (June-August) in some areas. The park is well serviced by a number of all-year-round airstrips, notably at Chunga, Ngoma and Lufupa- these enable tourists to make the most of the park in any of it’s ever changing seasons.

The Busanga Plains area is still strictly only accessible from (water-level dependent) early July until early November, this area is a floodplain.
During the dry season, once the Plains have dried up, herds of wildebeest and zebra move out of the treeline onto these areas. The resident pride of lion can often be seen swimming on the Plains during the wet season when they are covered in water.

Zambia’s unit of currency is the kwacha (k), sometimes listed as ‘ZMK’ (Zambian kwacha).

In the cities and larger towns, you can change cash and travellers cheques at branches of Barclays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. Larger branches have ATMs that accept Visa. Foreign exchange offices – almost always called bureau de changex – are easy to find in all cities and larger towns.

US Dollars are widely accepted at all of the lodges.
