The Best Spots in Rajasthan

The Best Spots in Rajasthan

Having spent three weeks in Rajasthan, our luxury travel expert, Emily, has compiled a list of exciting experiences which will make your Indian adventure a unique trip of a lifetime.

There are undoubtedly the classic Rajasthan tourist attractions that most travellers want to tick off their bucket lists, such as the Taj Mahal and the seven royal cenotaphs. Below is a list of slightly different and unique experiences which, in my eyes, can add just that much more to a trip to Rajasthan.

The Step Well Dinner and Elephant Hill Walk at Rawla Narlai:

Spend at least a couple of nights in this paradise. Be sure to do the Elephant Hill Walk at sunset, breath-taking views await you! The Step Well Dinner is the most phenomenal experience. After a short bullock cart ride through the village, you will enjoy a delicious traditional meal whilst sitting, surrounded by candlelight, in the Step Well. Singing Christmas carols in this setting is a memory that will stay with me forever.

Watch the sunset over Lake Pichola, Udaipur, from a rooftop bar or café:

Sitting with a cup of chai, or something stronger, and watching the sunset over Lake Pichola is not to be missed. Not only will you be faced with the most beautiful view, but you will also meet some amazing people. At this point, most will have finished work and will be going for drinks with friends. The locals in Udaipur are some of the friendliest people that you will meet and it is well worth sitting with the amazing view and getting to know them.

Flying Fox over Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur, and its surrounding lakes:

This is certainly the most exciting and exhilarating way to view an ancient Indian fort and not something that you will be able to do in many places. It is perfect for a family adventure. With Flying Fox, you will zip line over the battlements and the lakes below. This is a way to see completely different and spectacular views of the fort and the Blue City.

The Bagore Ki Haveli Dance Show in Udaipur:

This show will not disappoint. You will see traditional dances, folk dances, tribal dances and many more, as well as magic tricks and puppet dancing. This is a fantastic way to feel as though you are truly experiencing the traditional Indian culture. The talent that these dancers have is astounding.

Visit the Ghats and cafés in Pushkar:

Pushkar is a stunning town with 52 Ghats, stone staircases where pilgrims bathe, and it is absolutely worth visiting one. Sitting and watching the hustle and bustle that takes place around the Ghats is great fun. You will see a vast array of bright colours as the women make their daily visit to the Ghats to wash clothes and to bathe. This really was a cultural wonder that I am so glad not to have missed.

Pushkar is a town that is full of hidden gems, one being the ‘Funky Monkey Café’. This little café is quickly becoming known due to, not only its extremely friendly staff, but also due to its delicious homemade banana cake. It is a must!
