About Serian's Serengeti Mobile
Alex Walker's Serengeti Mobile Camp aims to give guests the bush experience of their life in a relaxed and friendly camp holding a luxurious edge. It is a mobile-tented function, which moves situation to one of two locations in or around the Serengeti depending on the time of year. From Dec to Apr, it is situated in Kusini in the Southern Serengeti. From July to mid-November it is situated in the stunning Lamai Wedge in Northern Serengeti, a few hundred metres from the Mara River where the renowned wildebeest river crossing takes place.
Serengeti Mobile camp has only 6 traditional safari tents with safari showers and flush toilets, five individual tents and one family tent. The Camp is perfect for serious photographers with exclusive use of vehicle with private guides. In Kusini, the camp is located in a fabulous predator area which is very quiet and enjoys lots of cheetah especially. Birthing season of 400,000 odd calves drop over a short period of January and February. In Lamai, the focus is on the crossings, but away from the river, there is fantastic viewing to be had, and it is not unheard of to see the big five in one day here.
North of the Mara River lies the Lamai Wedge, rolling savannah contrasts with rock-strewn hillsides and giant fig-tree groves. Serian's Serengeti North lies in a hidden valley of the Wogakuria. Where the swaying seas of grass are open to the lake basin skies, framed in the north by a range of distinctive inselbergs.
This little-known area in northern Serengeti full of secret valleys and ranging hills, has the Mara river running through it. The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya lies close by across the border. Kogatende also known as Wogakuria offers great quality game viewing, but without the crowds! The migration passes through from June to November, this is the most exciting time! With immense panoramic river crossings, you witness crocodiles gorging themselves, whilst indulgent Lion, Cheetah and Leopard pursue and delight in the smorgasbord of nomadic mega herds.
The Southern Serengeti is dominated by vast apparently infinite short grass plains, the Maswa woodlands to the south west and the dramatic Gol Mountains and open plains of Loliondo to the east. The southern plains are at their best between mid December and late May when this whole area comes alive as millions of wildebeest move onto the plains in search of the fresh green grass after the first rains.
A low use area you can drive all day and hardly see another human. At times almost wading through vast concentrations of plains games or sitting quietly, close to an isolated water pan way out in the plains, almost certainly home to its own resident pride of lion or Cheetah or Wild Dog and, with patience a very likely amphitheatre for some sort of predator action to play out. This is one of my favourite area's to walk in with some lively architectural landscape.
