About Sand Rivers Selous
Sand Rivers Selous has just eight stone and thatched cottages, all are open-fronted and raised on decks overlooking the Rufii River. There are five Riverside rooms with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, flush toilets and powerful showers. There are also three Hillside Suites which have large living spaces and a small private plunge pool, perfect for time out after a day on safari.
The eight open-fronted rooms are designed for maximum comfort with wonderful beds, plenty of space and probably the best showers you'll have come across for a while. Each room has panoramic views out over the river where the only sounds you will hear are those of the local Tanzanian wildlife.
The main living area is spacious, open-fronted and cool. There is a chill-out area near the library, as well as places to relax around the main pool, privately tucked away in a quiet corner or on the social managers table. There is also a bar where the drinks are cold and there will always be good stories to tell or be told.
This camp is much suited to the adventurous and active, those who like to be kept busy whilst on safari. Perfect for families, couples and honeymoons.
Practical info
Location
Sand Rivers Selous perches on the banks of the wide, lazy Rufiji River in the wildest part of the Selous Game Reserve. It is a small lodge was founded in the 1980s by Richard Bonham, who pioneered walking safaris here all those years ago.
Located in South Tanzania, the Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest faunal reserves of the world. No humans are able to take permanent residence in this National Park; instead this park is home to the biggest population of elephant, hippopotamus, African wild dog, cape buffalo and crocodile that you will find in East Africa.
The Rufiji River is a very popular tourist attraction because it is known as a photographic area. The Rufiji River flows to the Indian Ocean with boat safaris proving extremely popular. Walking safaris are also permitted within this Game Reserve so people can get up and close to the wildlife; within reason.
