About Taylors Hill
Taylors Hill is a classic up-country historical house surrounded by several acres of pretty lawns and luscious gardens, with stunning views of the hills surrounding Nuwara Eliya. The house attributes its name to James Taylor, the man who introduced commercial tea production into Ceylon, operating at the neighbouring Loolecondera Estate. Taylors Hill provides an ideal base to explore the sites in and around Kandy, such as the Botanical Peradeniya Gardens, The Temple of the Tooth and the must-see primary Ceylon Tea Museum. For discovering the exciting and rich history of Loolecondera fields and even see the original tea bush, Taylors Hill is the closest out of any of the hotels in Kandy.
Guests who base themselves at Taylors Hill to explore the Kandy City can discover the rich culture that is based around the world-famous Ceylon Tea. Guests can enjoy the ultimate ''tea experience'' with tours of the must-see is the Loolecondera Tea Factory, Sri Lanka's first tea factory, as well as walks and panoramic picnics through the historic tea bushes. For getting out and about, cycles are available and this is the best way to enjoy the quirks and true beauty of Sri Lanka's tea country.
The hotel's cuisine is inspired by the culture and history of the surrounding region and the menus feature colonial British and Tamil fare with complimentary high tea served daily. Each of the 5 bedrooms boast an individual design and colourful style with custom-made wallpaper to reflect the typical up-country, estate aesthetic. The rooms are each named after pioneers of the Ceylon Tea Story and each of the individually-styled rooms oozes opulence, luxury, and utmost comfort, making Taylors Hill the perfect home-from-home for each of its guests.
The rich history of the property and its surroundings is what makes Taylors House completely unique. The surrounding areas of Taylors Hill are filled with colourful, small Hindu Kovils, which hold processions and ceremonies with ringing bells and chants, a true burst of culture for visitors. Guests can also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the Temple of the Tooth, as well as the Botanical Gardens located in Peradeniya, less than 30km away. This is an ideal location to be one with nature as neighbouring Loolecondera is surrounded by hills and tea plantations with miles to walk. Nuwara Eilyah is the nearby town and is highly vibrant with a cool climate, spectacular waterfalls, colourful gardens and lakes. The town is also home to the highest mountain peak in the country, known as ''Pidurutalagala'', which is home to a spectacular golf club.

When to go
December to April is the best time to enjoy the area of Kandy as the weather is dry and mostly pleasant during this time. This is the ideal time to sightsee and enjoy trekking in the beautiful mountains. During May to September, Sri Lanka experiences two monsoon seasons. Yala monsoon is between May and August and brings rain to the South-western part of Kandy, making trekking and hiking difficult. October to November is when Sri Lanka experiences the Maha monsoon, again, making hiking and trekking difficult.
The house can be booked as a whole or as individual rooms.
Disability access: Although access downstairs is suitable, all the bedrooms are on the upper floor and are only accessible by stairs and are therefore not suitable for wheelchair access.
Smoking is not permitted inside the property, but is permitted within the gardens.
Travelling with children
Children of all ages are welcome.
