About Kahanda Kanda
This boutique hotel is comprised of 10 gorgeous suites set in the palm fringed jungle and tea plantations of Southern Sri Lanka. All of the suites are freestanding villas with open-air living and dining pavilions to maximise breezes and views over the gardens to Koggala Lake. The interiors are decorated with artwork and artefacts from across Asia such as stately teak furniture and blue-white china, but also have contemporary touches. Each room is individually designed and extremely comfortable and three of the villas have their own pools.
The hotel has plenty of facilities, a swimming pool, a yoga pavilion with a resident yoga teacher, a spa for massages, a fitness suite and television room with beanbags.
Dining takes place in the atmospheric, open-aired dining pavilion or it's glass-balconied extension. It's also possible to arrange private dining. The daily-changing set menus for lunch and dinner always include a Sri Lankan option, as well as international fusion cuisine.
A secluded hilltop location, on a private 12-acre tea estate with views to Koggala Lake. Kahanda Kanda is just 15 minutes from south coast beaches and 30 minutes east of Galle, easy enough reach of the main sites but far enough away to feel like a luxury escape.
How to get there
Kahanda Kanda is a 4 hour drive from Colombo's International Airport. It is also possible to take a seaplane from Colombo, which then lands on Koggala Lake, which takes 45 minutes.
When to go
Kahanda Kanda is a year round destination. The driest part of the year is December to April. The monsoon seasons is June/July and October/November bring daily could bursts but rarely a full day of rain.
