Luang Prabang is filled with architectural charm and has retained much from its old French history, a mellow gem of Southeast Asian cities.

Begin your trip in Luang Prabang with three nights at Rosewood in a luxurious tented villa tucked into the jungle. No detail has been overlooked at this exotic retreat, from French-Lao architecture to colourful Lao textiles to outdoor soaking tubs. In town, spot beautiful French buildings of the former Royal Palace before temple hopping around the country’s oldest and most sacred wats. Spend time wandering through bamboo gardens and sipping herbal tea at the Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden. Rise early one morning to give alms to the monks in a traditional almsgiving ceremony. If you’re feeling brave, take a dip in the chilly and refreshing Kuang Si Waterfalls.

Day 4 - 6: Muang La, Laos

  • Swim in the crystal clear waters of nearby Ban Phavie waterfalls
  • Cross the river on a bamboo raft, the Muang La way

Between rice paddies and lush tree-laden mountains, green is the best word to describe this small countryside town.

Journey to Muang La and stop by the Tham Pak Ou limestone caves covered in images of Buddha. Check in to Muang La Lodge for two nights. Spend a morning surrounded by natural beauty whilst trekking to Ban Phavie and end with a refreshing dip in the waterfalls; enjoy wonderful views of the river and rice fields as you pass through local villages, tropical rainforest and streams. Hop on a bamboo raft down the river for a memorable and authentic experience. In the evening, have a champagne sundowner before a private dinner.

Day 6 - 7: Luang Prabang, Laos

  • Eat mouth-watering Lao food from street vendors
  • Unwind by the outdoor swimming pool

Travel back to Luang Prabang for a night before catching a flight to Hanoi. This time stay at Satri House, a colonial home set in an urban oasis. Learn about Lao culture with a trip to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre with exhibitions on ethnic clothing, household objects and traditional handicrafts. In the evening, wander around the colourful night market to find delicious Lao street food such as sticky rice and stuffed chillies.

Day 7 - 9: Hanoi, Vietnam

  • Ride an electric buggy around Hanoi’s Old Quarter
  • Visit the mausoleum of Vietnam’s most famous president, Ho Chi Minh

The mix of French colonial architecture and Asian charm makes Hanoi an atmospheric, colourful and beguiling city.

Catch a flight to Hanoi and spend two nights at the Sofitel Legend Metropole. Soak up the chaotic, colourful buzz of Vietnam’s coolest city as your guide introduces you to Hanoi’s 1,000 years of cultural heritage. Visit the Temple of Literature, the city’s oldest monument, as well as Ho Chi Minh’s former house on stilts and mausoleum. Go green and hop in an electric buggy to explore Hanoi’s Old Quarter and its dedicated trade streets. Sample delicious street food and for a glimpse of one of Vietnam’s most distinct traditions, see a water puppet show at the famous Thang Long theatre.

Day 9 - 10: Halong Bay, Vietnam

  • Enjoy an overnight stay on a luxury Vietnamese junk boat
  • Kayak through hidden nooks of the spectacular bay

Halong Bay’s towering limestone rock formations jutting from the sea make for breathtaking views.

Board the Jasmine, a luxury Vietnamese junk boat. On your journey to Halong Bay, enjoy lunch onboard as you sail past picturesque islets and rock formations towering above the water. Hop off to see evidence of ancient human civilisation in Tien Ong Cave, dating back to 10,000 BC. Meet local fishermen in Halong Bay’s oldest fishing village before trying your hand at traditional fishing techniques. In the evening, join a fun traditional cooking demonstration with Jasmine’s chef before feasting over local delicacies at dinner.

Venture off the beaten track to this untouched corner of the country for a taste of authentic rural Vietnam.

Journey to Ninh Binh for two nights at Tam Coc Garden, a peaceful and traditional eco-lodge surrounded by rice fields and bamboo groves. Once settled, explore the historical sites of Vietnam’s former capital; discover ancient ruins as you learn about the 1,000 year old dynasties that lived here. Uncover the rustic countryside as you pedal through peaceful villages and stop for a delicious Vietnamese lunch at Dong Tam Hamlet. Enjoy a boat excursion through Ninh Binh’s sparkling stalactite caves before a peaceful night’s sleep.

  • Watch as dark shadows dance over Angkor Wat at sunrise
  • Soak up jungle views whilst sipping on a homemade juice in the pool bar’s open-air setting

Home to one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World, Siem Reap is a gateway to the Angkor kingdom ruins and boasts a booming cafe culture.

Fly to Siem Reap to spend three nights at Phum Baitang. Once you’ve relaxed by the pool in the shade of palm trees, stroll around Kampong Kleang to explore a floating village usually submerged in the water. Spend time in a local’s house and learn about their unique way of living over a fresh coconut juice. The following day, rise at dawn and set off in a tuk-tuk to watch the sun rise behind Angkor Wat.
