About Pumba Msenge Bush Lodge
Together with unrivalled beauty and an abundance of wildlife, Pumba Private Game Reserve & Spa provides a premium game viewing experience not soon to be forgotten. View the famous Big 5 or the vast array of more than 250 species of bird. Search for over 60 different species of mammals and have the rare opportunity of seeing the magnificent White Lion stalking prey or lazing around in its natural environment.
Stroll to your own stone walled, thatched chalet off the meandering timber footpaths after a day out, and relax in absolute comfort. A romantic moment on your private wooden deck, an outdoor shower, or sundowners on the floating jetty can all be enjoyed as the South African sun burns the sky before it sleeps and the hippos meander in the distance. Once the sun is down, enjoy a gourmet dinner paired with vintage wines under the African stars.
Msenge Bush Lodge, perched above a watering hole and overlooking the flood plain of the Cariega River, offers eleven luxury, glass enclosed, thatched chalets, which flow naturally into the African bush, allowing you to become one with nature:
There is one Msenge Chalets offering four-poster, king or twin beds as well as one Family Chalet offering 2 en-suite bedrooms with either king or twin beds, ideal for families with smaller children.
Leading off meandering footpaths, all chalets open up onto private timber game-viewing decks with outside showers and plunge pools. The bedrooms and bathrooms offer underfloor heating, free-standing bathtubs, double basins and terry-towel bathrobes to create an ambiance of luxurious indulgence. Air-conditioning, earthenware fireplaces and fine linen ensure your absolute comfort.
Discover true serenity in the calming Soul Spa. The Soul Spa is committed to the rejuvenation and soothing of body, mind and spirit.
Inspirations for the scents and remedies used are taken from fynbos, the desert and the ocean. The expert therapists are qualified to pamper you with a host of therapies, including various massages, full body wraps, hot stone therapy, manicures, pedicures, facials and hydrotherapy. None of these are done in isolation, however, with our therapists cognisant of a holistic approach in all spheres. For this reason too, each package is tailored to suit your specific needs and symptoms. And if you prefer complete intimacy and privacy, this can be arranged and you can enjoy all of these soothing treatments within the comfort of your own suite.
A steam room, gym and plunge pool are also available to you, providing the perfect end to a busy day spent exploring the Eastern Cape bush.
Pumba Private Game Reserve is situated within the glorious Eastern Cape Province, and within the SANBI Albany Centre of Endemism. This province benefits from a maritime and continental climate and experiences rainfall all year round. This means that the nine million hectares occupied by the province are rich in faunal and floral species. In fact, the area that the reserve occupies boasts five of the seven biomes in South Africa. Although dominated by vegetation known as Succulent Thicket or Valley Bushveld (thorny, spinescent, succulent bush), there are thousands of plant species. Over 4000 of these are endemic to the Eastern Cape.
There is a similar diversity of animals, which move and live in areas depending on the vegetation, as this determines their ultimate survival. The province is home to a plethora of mammals, birds and reptiles, many of which are threatened or endangered.
Pumba Private Game Reserve is committed to playing an active, relevant role in the conservation of the area, the upliftment of its community and the reduction of the consumption of resources. This has to be done while accommodating visitors from all over the world and showing them some of the natural treasures of Africa. Pumba has embarked on several initiatives to accomplish this balance.
Pumba Game Reserve is actively involved in the following projects:
The Green Leaf Environmental Initiative
Objectives of the Green Leaf Environmental Standard
Eastern Cape Association of Private Game Reserves (Indalo)
White Lion Breeding Programme
Leopard Monitoring and Rehabilitation Programme
Re-assessment of the Landscape of Pumba and the Alien Invasive Plant Species Clearing Programme
Rare and Endangered Species Introductory Programme
