About Emily Moon River Lodge
Set on the banks of the Bitou River in Plettenberg Bay, Emily Moon River Lodge is an exclusive boutique hotel with a quirky attitude and a distinctly African air. The hotel comprises of 10, exquisitely-appointed lodges set in an indigenous garden, with magnificent views of the river and the wetlands beyond.
Emily Moon River Lodge is owned by Mark Valentine and his wife Christine. The hotel is filled with the treasures they have collected from their travels all over Africa, Asia and Polynesia. This luxurious boutique hotel is managed by Alex Olivier and his wife Candice, who maintain the impeccable standards and the warm, welcoming ambiance that attracts visitors from all over the world.
At each lodge, sheer indulgence greets you at the door. All suites have a spacious living area, a well appointed bathroom with underfloor heating, a wooden viewing deck, a fireplace, wi-fi, plantation blinds, a ceiling fan, a mini bar and satellite TV. No two lodges are alike but they all feature rare artifacts collected from the length and breadth of Africa.
You will never forget the first time you see Plettenberg Bay. Once named Bahia Formosa, or ‘Beautiful Bay’ by early Portuguese explorers, Plett is also called the ‘Jewel of the Garden Route’ – an Internationally recognised Natural Heritage area in South Africa, stretching from Storms River on the border with the Eastern Cape to the town of George.
Surrounded by a mountain backdrop as far as the eye can see, Plettenberg Bay offers the best of nature , beaches and coastline, along with excellent accommodation, dining and tourist attractions.
How to get there
Plettenberg is on the N2, 240 km from Port Elizabeth, 520 km from Cape Town and 35 km from Knysna.
All major national coaches stop at the Shell garage on the N2 (1km from the town centre).
The Baz bus comes into the town center.
When to go
Summer for the Cape Region and Garden Route runs from October to April, with warm weather and some rain. Late summer is cooler and quite dry, offering very pleasant weather.
Travelling with children
Children are the responsibility of the parents. Emily Moon takes no responsibility for children who stay at Emily Moon.
Children under the age of two are not charged for.
Children under 12 years are charged at a reduced rate depending on the season (please inquire for more details).
