Embark on an African adventure by combining a trip to Rwanda and Tanzania, uncovering extraordinary wildlife in both the Volcanic National Park and the Maasai Mara. Explore the landscapes with unique experiences such as an air safari over Mount Kilimanjaro.

Highlights

  • Trek with both gorillas and golden monkeys for a life changing experience
  • Explore Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city with a thriving restaurant scene
  • Go on game drives in both day and night time to spot iconic African bush scenes
  • Taste traditional delicious Rwandese barbecued fish
  • Take a flight over Kilimanjaro for breathtaking views

Day 1 - 4: Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

  • Visit the Musanze Caves, covered in lush green vegetation and home to hundreds of bats
  • Gain an insight into local life with a visit to a local village for Rwandese cultural experiences

Breathtakingly isolated, this national park is one of the most famous, and home to two incredible primates.

Fly into Kigali International Airport before being privately helicoptered to Singita Kwitonda Lodge in Volcanoes National Park for three nights. Experience once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to trek for gorillas — never will you forget the experience of sitting with wild mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Similarly, head out golden monkey trekking, and with these primates being highly endangered and only found in this part of the world, this activity comes highly recommended. Visit the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural village for an insight into local culture where you can watch a traditional dance performance and taste locally brewed banana beer.

Day 4 - 5: Kigali, Rwanda

  • Visit a milk bar, classically Kigali, to learn about why milk in Rwanda symbolises wealth and prosperity
  • Visit the quaint Gaddafi Mosque, one of Rwanda’s most impressive structures

Kigali is the thriving heart of Rwanda, with picturesque sights and enough delights to fill your short stay.

Be driven by a private guide in your own vehicle back to Kigali. Arrive for an afternoon city tour and visit to the Kigali Genocide Museum to further understand Rwanda’s troubled past, before an overnight stay in Kigali Serena Hotel. Enjoy a spot of shopping in the famous Caplaki Craft Village, filled with stalls selling traditional handicrafts such as wood carvings and woven baskets. For a traditional dinner, taste the Kigalian specialty of ‘big fish’, freshly barbecued with onions and spices.

Day 5 - 8: Grumeti Game Reserve, Tanzania

  • Stargaze at the African sky above you, full of sparkling stars
  • Experience the bush personally on a guided game walk, tracking animals on foot

An integral part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, the Grumeti Game Reserve is an important corridor in the Great Migration.

From Kigali, fly to the Grumeti Game Reserve on the borders of the Serengeti National Park where you’ll spend three nights at Singita Explore. This luxury canvas tented camp is yours for exclusive use with friends and family, and will provide you with all the traditional bush activities you could wish for. Make the most of daily game drives for the perfect up-close viewing of African animals, including cheetah and bearded wildebeest. Alternatively, head out at night to experience the sights and sounds of the bush once the sun goes down, like a hunting lion.

Day 8 - 11: Grumeti Game Reserve, Tanzania

  • Soak up sprawling views of the plains whilst swimming in the infinity pool
  • Enjoy excellent wildlife sightings whilst out on daily game drives

Experience another corner of the private Grumeti Reserve from the comfort of an Edwardian manor-style lodge with just as excellent game viewing opportunities.

From Singita Explore you’ll be privately transferred to a different part of the Grumeti Game Reserve. Here you’ll spend your final three nights at Singita Sasakwa Lodge, considered East Africa’s most luxurious safari property. Whilst thrilling game drives are available here, take some time to visit the local community surrounding the reserve to experience the success of their projects, with a focus on education and and natural resource management. Why not upgrade with a hot air balloon trip at dawn to witness the Serengeti’s breathtaking beauty as the plains below you come to life.
