About Virunga Lodge
Virunga Lodge has been described as having 'the best view in the world' and as 'one of the finest lodges in Africa'. The lodge's eight bandas offer elegance and great comfort, with their 'organic, bush-chic' design reflecting the local building style.
Luxurious, en-suite bathrooms, with full facilities including low-flush toilets and running solar hot water, allow you to enjoy all the comforts of home, while still being sensitive to the environment. Each banda has its own terrace with spectacular views of the volcanoes or lakes.
The eight spacious stone bandas, all have wooden floors, chunky wooden furniture and large verandas. Each banda is connected by a short ,covered walkway to a private loo and shower. The loos are low-flushing eco loos and the shower has solar heated hot water. Virunga Lodge is a sociable place as everyone eats at one large table in the evening. Aside from gorilla-tracking, a local 'Indore' dance troupe perform here and massages are available.
Virunga Lodge is situated in the Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park) in Rwanda. The Virunga Mountain range spans Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Park is located in north-western Rwanda.

When to go
Virunga Lodge is open all year round and Rwanda can be visited at any time of the year. There are two rainy seasons.
The long rains last from mid-February to the beginning of June. The shorter rains are from mid-September to mid-December. From March to May the rains are heavy over the mountainous areas. The dry season is from June to September.
When payment has been received, permits for gorilla tracking in the relevant National Park can be purchased. Sadly, getting a gorilla permit does not guarantee seeing a gorilla.
We can arrange guides and vehicles to take you around. Every effort is made to ensure that vehicles are provided in a roadworthy condition but no liability can be accepted for breakdown, or any damage or delay. The guides are instructed to follow our code of conduct for guides (available on request), which you must not ask them to break in any way.
