About Singita Kwitonda Lodge
Singita Kwitonda Lodge is opening in August 2019, set on a 178-acre pocket of land close to the Volcanoes National Park in north west Rwanda. Kwitonda builds on the exciting opening of Bisate Lodge and adds to the other 5* accommodation gorilla trekking lodge options of Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge and VIrunga Lodge. Singita are set to up the ante again in terms of accommodation style, service standards and luxury experiences. This truly will be a bespoke and spectacular lodge from which to experience one of Earth's wildlife highlights.
The high-altitude cloud forests of Volcanoes National Park are home to more than one third of the world's mountain gorillas. Singita is working to support the Rwandan government to protect and increase the habitat area for the mountain gorillas. Singita's mission is to create low-impact tourism to help preserve areas of iconic African wilderness. The lodge has magnificent views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes.
The lodge will offer seven one-bedroom suites, a two-bedroom suite and a four-bedroom villa. The distance of each gorilla trek is varied, meals and lodge activities are flexible around each trek. Along with mountain gorillas, there is also the opportunity to see golden monkeys, side-striped jackal, black-fronted duiker, buffalo, elephant and an abundance of bird life. Trips to the Afro montane forests of Nyungwe National Park, Lake Kivu and the capital city Kigali are also on offer.
Singita Kwitonda Lodge is set on 178 acres of land on the edge of Volcanoes National Park.
How to get there
From Kigali International Airport, it is a 3.5 hour car journey to Singita Kwitonda Lodge. Alternative options include a spectacular helicopter flight from Kigali direct to the lodge.
When to go
In Rwanda, temperatures hardly vary throughout the seasons due to its position just south of the equator. Days are warm but nights can get chilly, especially at altitude. Rwanda is an all-year-round destination, but the drier period from June to September is considered best for spotting the mountain gorillas.
Visa requirements: British, American, or East African passport holders do not require an advanced visa for Rwanda as is available on arrival. All other nationalities must obtain a visa for Rwanda before travel as visas are not available on arrival in Rwanda.
You are advised to obtain professional advice on health issues. Drink only bottled water. A yellow fever vaccination is required for travel to Rwanda.
Please note children under the age of 15 are not able to trek with mountain gorillas. This is for reasons of safety and is non-negotiable.
