Wanaka

New Zealand

Wanaka is an old gold mining town situated on the shores of Lake Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand. It is the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park and is a popular destination whatever the season, from skiing to summer hiking and even for longerterm retirement. Many tourists take the Haast Pass, which passes from the West coast glaciers, through Wanaka on their way to Queenstown. The scenery from the moment you leave the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier is spectacular. Stopping en route at lakes and wetlands and passing over wide bridges with fresh water rivers gushing underneath them. The changes of spotting Furseals and penguin colonies is high.On an overcast day, there’s the sculpture park, the outdoor maze and puzzling world, not to forget the endless activities on a bright sunny day.
