How to get there
Approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes drive from Auckland or 292 kms.
Air New Zealand operates scheduled flights daily from Auckland to Kerikeri/Bay of Islands airport. Charter flights can also be organised.
An exciting option is by helicopter, which takes just under 3 hours door-to-door. Commercial aircraft fly from Kerikeri Airport (25 minutes drive from Kauri Cliffs) to Napier Airport, with one stop in Auckland. The flight time by this method is around 2 hours, and approximately 4 hours door-to-door.
When to go
The weather tends to be pretty unpredictable. That said, it means that you can go at any time of year and still get glorious days. At the bottom of the world (or top, depending on how you look at it!) the seasons are opposite to the Northern Hemisphereâs and most people who visit New Zealand choose to go during their summer season, which is December through February.
The risks to health whilst travelling will vary between individuals and many issues need to be taken into account, e.g. activities abroad, length of stay and general health of the traveller. It is recommended that you consult with your General Practitioner or Practice Nurse 6-8 weeks in advance of travel. They will assess your particular health risks before recommending vaccines and /or antimalarial tablets.
Travelling with children
A really nice place to relax with the family and is fairly children friendly.
Extra beds can be added to Lodge and Ridge Suites. Under-2s stay free, children aged from 2 to 5 can stay for NZ$200 (plus 15 per cent tax) a night.
