About Hoanib Valley Camp
The new up-and-coming Hoanib Valley Camp is situated in the stunning Hoanib Valley, on the banks of the Oabis River. The camp boasts 6 large and luxurious tents, raised on spacious wooden decks, each with their own private veranda for ultimate viewing positions and relaxation. The camp possesses a spacious tented lounge that has been decorated with the aim to feel homely and comfortable, offering guests a true African home-from-home.
The camp is described as 'clean and green' with virtually no carbon foot print and use of solar power in this fragile and important ecosystem. The camp has been set up in conjunction with the Sesfontein community and also with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. This gives guests peace of mind and they can stay in the knowledge that, their experience on safari and at this camp, is helping protect the Namibian ecosystem, as well giraffes, elephants and other general game species within the Namibian landscape.
The camp is situated on the banks of the Obias River, overlooking the sensational Hoanib River Valley, in Namibia. The Hoanib Valley is a known linear oasis of vegetation that runs through one of the most spectacularly beautiful deserts in the whole of Africa. The valley boasts tremendous game, including desert adapted elephants, giraffe, zebra, lion and rhino, all of which move freely through the vast mountainous landscape. What is so special about the location of the camp in the Hoanib Valley, is that the valley fluctuates between seasonal river flows through green, grassy springbok-dotted plains, or dry and sandy riverbeds with resident elephants. This provides guests with that sense of surprise and excitement when they head to this truly unique location for their safari experience.
How to get there
There are direct flights to Windhoek from Cape Town, Johannesburg, Doha and other major international airports. Fly to Windhoek and then switch to a light aircraft and fly to the nearest airstrip. The camp is situated in the Sesfontein Community Conservancy Area, Koakoland. This is in the very remote Northwest of Namibia. The current closest airstrip is Sesfontein, however a camp-dedicated airstrip is planned to be built within easy access of the valley camp.
There is also access by car. However, you will need a 4x4 vehicle due to the location and terrain within Hoanib Valley. If you are driving in a non-4x4 vehicle, game drive vehicle transfers can be organised from Sesfontein to the camp.
When to go
The camp is opening May 2018.
The camp will be available all year round.
The Green season is from January to March. The Shoulder season is from April to June, and then again from November to January. The different seasons offer a completely different range of game species and therefore a completely different safari experience for guests. High season is June to October and Peak season is August.
Wifi is available in camp.
There will be low volt charging points in the tents for batteries and cameras etc., but items such as hairdryers are recommended leaving at home.
Travelling with children
Children over the age of 6 are welcome.
