About Ibo Island Lodge
Ibo Island Lodge is located on the prime waterfront site, where romantic dhows sail out to sea on each high tide. The lodge encompasses original rehabilitated magnificent mansions each over one hundred years old with high lofty ceilings. They have exposed coral and lime metre thick walls, solid original teak ceiling beams, large hand carved doors, furniture and traditional Ibo floors.
All of the rooms are individually designed, air-conditioned and have ceiling fans. They each have wide verandas and spaces furnished with hand crafted furniture, antiques and beautiful fabrics. Each of the rooms has an en-suite bathroom with twin basins and large showers. Some also have baths and outdoor showers.
Ibo Island Lodge offers a relaxed and informal atmosphere in fitting with the island's ambiance. It is set among beautiful tropical gardens with palms, established trees, bougainvillea and frangipani. Three pools keep guests cool and refreshed. The main pool is rim flow and faces the ocean and sunset.
Ibo Island provides the ultimate setting for guests to experience a very real ancient African culture, not mass produced for tourism.
The lodge's restaurant and bar is situated high up on the roof terrace of the Bela Vista mansion facing west for unforgettable sunsets and affording spectacular views over the bay. Lunches are also served in the gardens, and beside the pool. Cuisine combines Mozambican and world inspired influences with the freshest of seafood: giant tiger prawns, game fish and Ibo's specialty: fresh crab with fragrant soft, fluffy coconut rice. Romantic and private dinners are served in a number of locations, or on the rooftop terrace with awesome views over the sea.
There is only one Ibo Island amongst the other 27 islands that make up the Quirimbas Archipelago and no Quirimbas itinerary is complete without the Ibo Island Lodge experience. Ibo Island of one of the most ancient settlements in Mozambique. As early as AD600 Arab traders established trading routes with local communities. Via these trading posts, slaves, gold and ivory were shipped to the Arab world. The Portuguese established control by 1522, and by the mid 1600’s the Archipelago was ruled by 2 main families – the Morues and Meneses families. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Ibo was one of Portugal’s main Indian Ocean ports. Since independence, Ibo has remained very isolated and unspoiled and this is part of its enormous charm.

It is ESSENTIAL that clients travel to Pemba with their local currency in cash.
