Mount Gahinga Lodge

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mount Gahinga Lodge nestles in the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes on the border of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mounts Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhuvura provide an impressive backdrop to this unique lodge. Each of the nine bandas are named after volcanoes in the Virunga chain. They are based around traditional pygmy huts – albeit with more luxurious modern comforts. The mature tropical garden setting and rustic style cottages combine to give the impression of staying in the bygone era of Hemingway. Spend the day with the Batwa Pygmies, widely regarded to be the oldest surviving peoples of central Africa, to experienceetheir ancient life. The area, because of its varied habitats, is also famous for birding with over 180 birds species and for tracking the endangered golden monkeys. The main building features a rustic living space with a warm central fire that offers the ideal environment for relaxing at the end of the day, with the terrace outside and a spacious sunroom adjoining the living area completing the peaceful and open style. Each of the bandas has been thoroughly renovated to offer unparalleled luxury in the region. Each room has a fireplace and an en-suite bathroom with showers and flush toilets and each is reached by taking a short stroll through the large gardens that fill the lodge with life.
