About Velaa Private Island
At just under 20 hectares in size and designed to embody the very best of the unique archipelago in the Indian Ocean, Velaa Private Island provides the ultimate secluded, luxury getaway. There is no doubt of the inspiration behind the island, as guests are greeted by a birds eye view of its turtle shaped layout upon arrival by sea plane.
Each of the 43 private retreats are built using local materials, combining contemporary flourishes with the desire to let the Indian Ocean take centre stage, with 18 residences and the spa being built over water. Generous terraces and sultry gazebos are positioned to maximise shade, breeze, views and privacy.
Whether you want to curl up in the shade with a good book, unwind with a tailor made relaxation program or get your adrenaline fix at the world class watersports centre or golf course, Velaa Private Island can cater to your every need.
Don't let the remote location fool you, the onsite chefs provide outstanding food at a variety of locations. A carefully considered, creative gourmet menu is served at the beach front Aragu restarant, with famous pizzas served up from their wood fired oven. With 360 degree views over the turquoise sea, the tower top Tavaru restaurant celebrates Teppanyaki grill cuisine above a three story high world class wine cellar.
Velaa Private Island is located a 45 minute seaplane ride north of Male international airport.
How to get there
When to go
Similar to tropical countries, the Maldives has both a dry and a wet season. However, hot and humid weather is always complimented by cooling sea breezes. The dry season runs from January to March/April, with the wet season starting in May and continuing until November.
The Romantic Pool Villa is accessible only by boat
Velaa Private Island has adapted disability access, however access to the island via seaplane does not cater to disabilites at present.
Travelling with children
Children are welcome at Vilaa Private Island, with Lha Velaa (Little Turtle) providing the ideal location for younger guests to enjoy, learn and develop new skills whilst parents enjoy some much needed time off. Many activities are organised daily, including entertainment on rainy days.
