About Saruni Samburu
Saruni Samburu is a deluxe, design lodge located in Kenyas wild north. It is the only lodge in Kalama Conservancy, which borders Samburu National Reserve, with 200,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness to explore and enjoy exclusively.
Perched on a spectacular viewpoint, its six luxury villas are open and spacious, heralding spectacular views over Kenyas Northern Frontier District and Mount Kenya in the distance. Guests can enjoy the vast panoramas from the dining and lounge area, the two infinity pools and the Wellbeing Space, which overlook several waterholes where the famous Samburu elephant, leopard, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and Grevys zebra gather to drink.
The lodge is admired for its innovative, eco-chic architecture and interesting design and décor, as well as its Italian style cuisine. You are guided from start to finish by Samburu warriors who are passionate about their land and their culture, learning first-hand about their fascinating customs and traditions and their ancient, local knowledge about the land and the animals a truly authentic experience. The vastness and purity of this landscape, combined with the untouched local culture, elegant comfort and welcoming hospitality makes for an intimate, exceptional and life changing experience.
Saruni Samburu is located at the heart of the Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, about 7 km from the Northern border of the Samburu National Reserve (accessed through the Kalama Gate). It also borders Ngutuk Ongiron to the west, Namunyak Community Conservation Trust to the north and Sera Community Wildlife Conservation to the north east.
Kalama lies in an area of 95,000 hectares of Girgir Group Ranch in Samburu land, west of Archer's Post. With a population of only 2,000, the main livelihood in the area is livestock, mostly camels and goats. Centered around a core conservation area of 3,150 hectares, Kalama represents a crucial migratory corridor between northern and southern conservation areas of this spectacular region of Kenya. Large herds of elephants cross Kalama in their migratory routes between the different conservancies that are under the NRT umbrella.
