My driver Dominic was brilliant, seemed to know where the animals would be and had a great sense of humour. I will be back.

About Offbeat Meru Camp
Offbeat Meru Camp is a 12 bed traditional semi-permanent camp situated just outside Meru National Park in the Bisanadi National Reserve, set above the pretty Bisanadi River with a beautiful riverine forest.
The camp itself comprises of six tents, one family tent (a double and interconnecting triple) as well as five double/twin tents (an extra bed can be added to make a triple). Each tent is furnished with a huge iron bed, mosquito net and has its own en-suite shower room, with traditional hot safari shower and flushing loo. In addition, there is 24-hour solar lighting in the tents, whilst the rest of the camp is lit by traditional tilly lamps.
Informal dining is hosted in the mess tent or usually outside under a canopy of stars. The camp also has a stunning infinity pool overlooking the river below. There is also a spacious living room with comfortable sofas, a writing table and a fully stocked bar.
Days are tailored to suit the guests' requirements. This area of Kenya gets quite hot during the dry season. After an active morning in the bush there's no better feeling than coming back to camp and cooling off in the stunning infinity swimming pool watching the wildlife as it comes to drink from the Bisanadi River below you.
Meru National Park offers visitors a chance to the masses. The park has a wide variety of landscapes and is dominated by savannah, but includes riverine forest and swamps. The park is bisected by 13 rivers which flow towards the Tana River in the south and rise in the Nyambene Hills to the west.
Almost bought to its knees by heavy poaching in the 80's and 90's, Meru National Park is now thriving. It is once again home to the 'Big Five', after the re-introduction of black and white rhino (the park now boasts over 67 rhino in its large sanctuary), as well as a great number of other species including reticulated giraffe, oryx, gerenuk and lesser kudu. The huge buffalo herds and elephant are seen regularly. The parks rivers flow through the area encouraging a spectacular variety of bird life. Immortalised by Joy Adamson in her book 'Born Free' and with only two other lodges in the park, the likelihood of seeing anyone else while you stay here is small - you feel you have the park to yourself. The park also has a healthy lion population as well as cheetah and leopard.
The Camp is the first and only tourist facility in the Bisanadi Reserve which was gazetted as a National Reserve in 1979 and is an area of 606 sq kms. The park fees generated by the camp have helped preserve this area as a wildlife destination against pressure from locals who wanted to take back the land for farming.
Offbeat Meru Camp is also involved with supporting Guba Dida Primary School, which is a government school located in our neighbouring Boran community. They have so far helped with desks, chairs, books, blackboards and hopefully are about to install a new water system in the school and help in the future with building classrooms, teachers' houses and scholarships. They are one of the biggest employers in the area and many of the staff are from the local villages of Kinna and Rapsu.
