About Mara Engai Wilderness
Mara Engai WIlderness Lodge, situated 1000ft above the Mara plains perched upon the Estoit Olooloo Escarpment in Kenya, is this new and luxurious Lodge. Overlooking the amazing Masai Mara National Reserve and Wildebeest Migration Route, with around 120km of unbroken views it is simply breath-taking.
The Lodge itself has twenty enormous, beautifully furnished, luxurious tented-suites, built on raised platforms. Each with full en-suite facilities featuring invigorating waterfall showers plus private viewing decks to make the most of the incredible atmosphere and amazing views. Some of the suites overlook the plateau below; while others are nestled in the local forest canopy.
Guests can enjoy excellent fresh cuisine sourced (where possible) from the Lodge's own organic Mara allotments. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant, on the private viewing deck or even as a picnic to remember out in the Mara Reserve.
Unique to the Mara, the Lodge has specially adapted 6x6 Pinzgauer vehicles for added comfort and mobility on unmissable and uncrowded game drives within Masai Maras rich Wilderness Triangle. After a thrilling game drive, the well stocked bar provides the opportunity to unwind in the lounge, whilst watching the sun set over the Masai Mara and surrender to a mass of twinkling stars. Guests can then refresh in their individually styled suites, before enjoying exquisite cuisine and excellent wines available à la Carte.
The highlight of the Maasai Maras nature packed calendar is the Great Migration. Some 2 million animals including Wildebeest and Zebra make their way from the Serengeti to cross the Mara River; where predatory lions and crocodiles eagerly await their arrival.
Set on the edge of the rich Mara Triangle – divided from the rest of the Maasai Mara National Reserve by the Mara River, the Mara Triangle is less visited and less crowded, often with many more game animals grazing on the plains and between the volcanic hills that distinguish this corner of the Mara.
The Lodge overlooks the great Wildebeest Migration route, within driving reach of river crossings whilst only being 8km from the Tanzania boarder. The Lodge is frequently visited by a herd of elephants around 20 in number, leopard, baboons as well as a multitude of birdlife. Only the other month a very rare Pangolin was sighted. The Llodge supports sustainable tourism with their own vegetable garden as well as providing carpentry learning skills to the local communities along with an existing Mara clinic.
The Maasai Mara comprises 200 sq miles of open plains, woodlands and ravine forest and is a natural extension of the Serengeti plains in Tanzania. The Mara River, the reserve’s backbone, is the natural barrier crossed every year by migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra. At the Mara River they mass together on the banks before finally plunging forward through the raging waters, creating a frenzy as they fight against the currents and waiting crocodiles. It is a wildlife spectacle like no other and played out each year in time and memorial.
