About Hemingways Watamu
An oasis of peace and calm, nestling on one of the world's top 10 beaches, for rest and relaxation few places on earth compare to Hemingways Watamu. The hospitality matches the setting with friendly, helpful service in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.
The 76 rooms are all air-conditioned and en-suite and the restaurant serves the freshest sea-food, straight from the ocean. Theres just so much to do here - relax in the poolside bar of the resort working your way through the cocktail menu; play a round of golf on the nearby world class course, Vipingo Ridge; learn to kite-surf; get your PADI certificate; take a sunset dhow cruise on Mida Creek or go on safari for a few days in Tsavo or the Maasai Mara.
Superior rooms: The bright, airy rooms all offer a view of the Indian Ocean horizon. Repose in the comfort of muted colours, cool cotton, fresh flowers and a private balcony, only a whisper away from the white sands of the shore. The personal room-service operates 24 hours. Every room is en-suite, air-conditioned and has mosquito netting, a fridge and a personal safe. You'll also find a fan, telephone, minibar, hairdryer and kettle in your room.
Deluxe rooms: These rooms offer a little more space and a bath as well as a shower. The South Wing rooms, on the ground floor, have a double bed and a single bed and are ideal for families. In the North Wing, the deluxe rooms are on the ground or first-floor directly in front of the beach. North Wing rooms offer a king-size bed if you prefer. They come with their own private terrace and easy access to the beach. The lawn in front of your room is a tranquil place to read and soak up the coastal sunshine.
Junior suites: Junior suites are on the ground or first floor of the South Wing. All ground floor suites have a private terrace. The four suites on the first floor have an excellent view from an enclosed balcony. Enjoy the expansive living room and huge bathroom.
Executive suites: The two most luxurious rooms are first floor, pent-house style apartments. From the crisp linen of your super king-sized bed, enjoy the sound of the waves washing over the reef. Sip the signature cocktail in your private lounge as the sun sets, silhouetting a dhow sailing in with your supper, fresh from the ocean. Submerge yourself in the deep bath and feel exhilarated by the ocean-air. There are two bathrooms in the suite and a small kitchen area for your convenience.
Interconnecting rooms are available in all room types. Please enquire for more information.
The coast-line’s waters and shores will entice you to explore their secrets. The reef ripples with fluorescent fish and the forest rings with the calls of myriad exotic birds. Hike, ride, snorkel or sail the region, rich in wildlife, culture and heritage. Beyond the beach, Watamu has several interesting places to visit. Hike through the shady forest in search of colourful birds, sail Mida Creek in a dhow or head to Malindi to discover Swahili antiques in bustling little streets. Don’t feel that you have to spend your whole holiday on the coast, you might like to venture inland for a few days on safari to explore Kenya’s thriving National Parks.

During the period between April to August, Watamu experiences stronger than normal winds and receives sea weed deposits on the beach. As this area is a United Nations biosphere and National Marine Park, removal of the sea weed deposits from the beach is prohibited. However, there are always clear areas on the beach dependent upon the wind and tides and our water based activities such as snorkeling and canoeing are still scheduled. The dhow cruise and beach activities at the Mida Creek remain uninterrupted.
