About Elephant Pepper Camp
Elephant Pepper Camp is situated in the prime core of the protected and private Mara North Conservancy wilderness area. In the same location for 20 years, one of the original, very small and exclusive tented camps, Elephant Pepper is located away from other lodges, in the heart of the African bush. The spacious canvas tents are comfortably furnished, featuring en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and traditional safari showers. Nothing rivals sitting around the campfire listening to the sounds of the African night.
Enjoying extended game drives in the best equipped 4x4 game drive vehicles, clients participate in the most unique wildlife experience in the world. Elephant Pepper Camp brings people to the heart of the wilderness ~ no traffic, no permanent structures, just the sights and sounds of the African bush.
Recently, they have extended the camp by a second Honeymoon Suite / Family Tent bringing the camp’s room configuration to: 8 en-suite tents and 2 Family/Honeymoon tents. All the bedrooms now have brand new tents, which are larger and tan in colour. The traditional safari showers have been replaced with running water showers in all tents. A new lounge/library area has been built.
Elephant Pepper Camp has been the driving force in creating the Mara North Conservancy (MNC), established in 2009, which covers over 70,000 acres between Musiara and Aitong, a core parcel within the Masai Mara eco-system. The newly formed conservancy provides some of the Maasai Mara’s prime game viewing, by maintaining the land solely for wildlife conservation. MNC guarantees its 750 Maasai landowners stable revenue, transparent financial management and the preservation of the ancient balance between wildlife and traditional pastoralism.
EPC has worked with the local Maasai community for nearly 20 years, with the creation of MNC only the latest development in preserving this vital wilderness. EPC works with the community, local government and other stake holders and has participated and/or spearheaded many development initiatives, including helping homesteads translocate their building materials in order to reduce the need for tree felling.
