About Delta Dunes
This beautifully designed lodge provides the perfect place to sit back and relax after a busy day of adventure around the Tana River Delta. The lodge was built through entirely recycled wood which gives the guest a real sense of location. The scenic secluded location make Delta Dunes a peaceful and relaxing location for either couples or families.
Delta Dunes offer an exciting array of activities all based on or around the Tana River. These vary from wakeboarding and sand yachting to finding the exotic animals who call the river their home. The Tana Delta is home to over 270 species of bird as well as hippo, crocodile and buffalo. Or one could take a dip in either the beautiful swimming pool or on the beach where the waves are long and small.
Due to the waterfront location of Delta Dunes, the chef serves fresh seafood from the river daily. Aside from the delicious fish on offer the chefs are creative and passionate which makes for an exciting and ever changing menu for the guests.
The closest towns to the Lodge are Lamu and Malindi. Delta Dunes Lodge is located on a stunning stretch of deserted beach overlooking the Indian Ocean to the east and the Tana River Delta to the west.
How to get there
Guests can either charter a plane from either Lamu or Malindi which is a short and beautiful flight. If you take a plane you will land on the beach right in front of the lodge.
Alternatively, guests take a 2-hour car journey from Malindi airport and then a short 20 minute boat ride to the lodge.
When to go
We would recommend going to Delta Dunes from October to February as the weather is beautiful and sunny with light breezes. Delta Dunes Lodge is closed from June to mid-July and the rainy season in Kenya generally runs from May to June. During March to April the temperature reaches highs of 40 and above so we would suggest avoiding these months
British and American citizens will need a visa to visit Kenya. This is an easy process and you have the choice of either getting a visa on arrival at the airport, or before you travel. Visit the e-visas website (http://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html) to apply for single entry and transit visas.
It is advisable when travelling to visit your GP to check whether you are due any vaccinations or if you potentially need malaria pills for your trip.
We advise all our clients to be respectful of the local people when taking photographs. Always ask if people are happy to have their photo taken, especially if photographing children. Equally, when photographing officials or public buildings similar precautions should be taken.
Travelling with children
There are no specific facilities for children. However, Delta Dunes is an ideal place for an active family. There are two family cottages with two bedrooms each.
