Lovely food, drinks by the fire overlooking the lagoon, boat rides, lunch on an island and very comfortable and spacious rooms.

About Mapula Lodge
Set in the Northern fringes of the Okavango Delta on a 220,000-acre plot. Mapula Lodge is located on a large treed island surrounded by the stunning lagoons, floodplains and trumpeting elephants that are iconic of this delta landscape. The lodge is incredibly secluded making it an even more blissful place to spot the abundance of wildlife.
There are nine large canvas-and-thatch bedroom tents all with king size four poster beds and en-suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. The lodge is set to reopen in April 2018 and the tents have all been stylishly refurbished to include traditional features. In the main area of the lodge, there is a swimming pool - perfect to cool off after a game drives in the delta heat. The pool also looks over a hippo-filled lagoon below.
This area is known for having the highest concentration of lion than anywhere in the Okavango Delta. There's a huge diversity of species in the reserve, in addition to lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog, youâll also spot lesser-known predators such as caracal, serval and mongoose. The birdlife is also wonderful here, with the opportunity to spot the endangered wattled crane, carmine bee-eater, and the African paradise flycatcher.
Mapula Lodge is located to the north of Vambura and Duba Plains on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta. The camp itself is on a large treed island at the edge of the seasonal floodplains, on the upper reaches of the famous Selinda Spillway, the river that connects the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti.

When to go
Mapula Lodge is open all year round. April to October are the dry, winter months. This is actually when the water levels are at their highest â the best time of year for water and mokoro safaris, enabling access to remote areas. Temperatures are mid 20âs with blue skies. October to March are the green season months. Rain comes in the form of short, sharp thunderstorms and dramatic skies and sunsets further enhance the stunning scenery. Water levels are lower in the green season but there is always water around the lodge so boat safaris are available at all times of year.
