APRIL AND MAY: BABY ANTELOPES AND LUSH VEGETATION

The end of the rainy season leaves the land teeming with life. Witness the first shaky steps of newborn baby antelopes and zebras – a truly unforgettable experience.

The weather is warm during the day but chilly at night. It’s a good time to see the spectacular Victoria Falls, as water levels are at their highest. Take a helicopter trip to enjoy the full panorama and avoid the intense spray.

JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST: WALKING SAFARIS AND BIG CATS

The bush starts to dry out and temperatures are hotter. As the landscape becomes more open wildlife is easier to spot, as lions, leopards and cheetahs become more active during the day.

There’s nothing quite like waking to the sound of hippos grunting or lions roaring in the night! Discover this breathtaking world on a walking safari or game drive.

SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER: GATHERING

As the dry season nears its end, this is peak time for wildlife viewing. Animals start to gather at waterholes and riverbeds in great numbers and the vegetation is less dense.

This is the best moment to observe and photograph an extraordinary variety of animals. Wildlife behaviour is particularly predictable at this time of year. The weather is hot and humid but it’s undoubtedly worth the effort.

NOVEMBER: AMAZING BIRDLIFE AND THE START OF THE RAINY SEASON

November brings unpredictable weather, although the full rainy season comes a little later. For birdwatchers, this is the time for incredible migrations and plentiful sightings of endemic varieties.

It also sees the arrival of ten million fruit bats. Thought to be the largest mammal migration on the planet, this remarkable sight is absolutely unforgettable.

DECEMBER: GORGEOUS SUNSETS AND LOTS OF BABIES

The rains arrive in earnest and the bird migration is at its height. This is the time for a new generation of baby antelope and zebras to arrive, when vegetation is at its most plentiful.

Rain is often torrential and high water levels make some areas inaccessible. However, there are always bursts of good weather so it’s still possible to head out on evening game drives, and enjoy the spectacular sunsets.

JANUARY, FEBRUARY AND MARCH: TIME FOR ADVENTURE

Wildlife is harder to spot but there’s still plenty to do. River rafting, horse riding and microlight flights are just some of the ways to enjoy a thrilling new perspective on this very special country.
