Sossusvlei and Namibrand

Namibia

For many, Sossusvlei is the most photogenic region in the whole of Namibia. Located in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, a vast area of protected desert and mountains larger than Switzerland, you will find a sea of rusty red dunes that have over time been shaped by the winds and the underground Tsauchab River. The dunes contrast so brilliantly with the dusty white salt pans dotted with solitary dead acacia trees, that it is no wonder Sossusvlei is considered Namibia’s best-known attraction.A visit to Sossusvlei will include a full day in Namib-Naukluft National Park itself, where guests have the opportunity to climb the dunes, the most popular being ‘Big Daddy’ and ‘Dune-45’, and snap photographs of ‘Dead Vlei’ – the most iconic of the salt pans. The dark dead camel-thorn trees upon this stark white vlei are estimated to be around 900 years old.Other activities in the area include quad-biking, hot air balloon rides and scenic flights over the breathtaking landscapes.
